TMDB key
Titles, posters, descriptions and cast in the showcase come from TMDB, a community-built movie and TV database. The official image ships with Torsher's app key, so the catalog works without any setup. You need your own key only if the app key stops working or your build has none, for example an image you built yourself.
What you'll get
The key works in the panel and a full catalog on the TV.Do you need your own key
Open Settings → Metadata in the panel, or look at the Network step of the setup wizard:
- TMDB key works with App key: the app key works, nothing to do.
- No TMDB key or TMDB rejected the key: get your own key below.
- Key not checked: TMDB is unreachable: the server doesn't reach TMDB at all. Fix the network first, see Network.
1. Get a key
- Sign up at themoviedb.org and confirm your email.
- Open your account settings, section API, and request an API key for personal use.
- Copy the API Read Access Token (a long string) or the API Key (32 characters). Either works.
2. Enter it
In Settings → Metadata, under TMDB key, choose Your key, paste the key and save. In the wizard, the same card is below the network checks.
The catalog uses the key from the next request. Select Check to test it.
You can also set the token in docker-compose.yml as TMDB_ACCESS_TOKEN: it replaces the app key. A key saved in the panel takes precedence over both. To go back to the app key, choose App key.
If something went wrong
- TMDB didn't accept the key. Copy the key again without spaces, or try the other of the two values from the TMDB API page.
- TMDB is unreachable — check the network settings. Your network can't reach TMDB: often the DNS of the provider returns a wrong address. See Network.
About TMDB data
Torsher keeps TMDB data and images for no longer than TMDB's terms allow and shows TMDB attribution on the About screen. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
